Neither Shaken nor Stirred: Reply to Bertenthal and Scheutz
نویسندگان
چکیده
The crux of the debate between ourselves and Bertenthal and Scheutz (2013) (B&S) is whether imitative compatibility effects reflect the operation of specialized imitationrelated mechanisms or instead arise from the same associative learning processes thought to underlie spatial compatibility effects. Our conclusions were, and remain, more modest than B&S imply. We do not claim that our model rules out the possibility that spatial and imitative compatibility depend on qualitatively distinct processes, but we believe it supports a “same mechanisms” over a “different mechanisms” view.

In Praise of a Model but Not Its Conclusions: Commentary on Cooper, Catmur, and Heyes (in press)
Cooper et al. (this issue) develop an interactive activation model of spatial and imitative compatibilities that simulates the key results from Catmur and Heyes (2011) and thus conclude that both compatibilities are mediated by the same processes since their single model can predict all the results. Although the model is impressive, the conclusions are premature because they are based on an inc...
متن کاملShaken, not stirred: bioanalytical study of the antioxidant activities of martinis.
BACKGROUND Moderate consumption of alcoholic drinks seems to reduce the risks of developing cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cataracts, perhaps through antioxidant actions of their alcohol, flavonoid, or polyphenol contents. "Shaken, not stirred" routinely identifies the way the famous secret agent James Bond requires his martinis. OBJECTIVES As Mr Bond is not afflicted by cataracts or car...

A Computational PDP Model for Explaining Automatic Imitation
Recent evidence suggests that automatic imitation is mediated by an observation-execution matching system that cannot be reduced to the same processes responsible for other stimulusresponse (S-R) compatibilities. A computational model is developed with different patterns of connectivity for imitative and spatial compatibilities, and it is successful in simulating the results from three differen...
متن کاملModelling Decision Problems Via Birkhoff Polyhedra
A compact formulation of the set of tours neither in a graph nor its complement is presented and illustrates a general methodology proposed for constructing polyhedral models of decision problems based upon permutations, projection and lifting techniques. Directed Hamilton tours on n vertex graphs are interpreted as (n-1)- permutations. Sets of extrema of Birkhoff polyhedra are mapped to tours ...
